Abstract

Linear - dimension gauges. - The rectilinear displacements of a movable member, such as the float of a liquidlevel indicator, are indicated by moving another member until it makes contact with it, and indicating the position of the second-mentioned member. A float 2 is adapted to slide freely on a vertical rod 1, and a helical blade 3 mounted on a pivoted rod 6 is turned until it comes into contact with the float. The rod 6 carries a pulley 7 over which passes a cord 8 having a counterweight 12 at one end and a handle 9 at the other end by which the blade 3 is actuated. The extent to which the blade 3 must be turned to come into contact with the float depends on the height of the latter, and is indicated by the pointer 10. In a modification, Fig. 2, a pivoted plate 4 is so mounted that when the handle 9 is pulled the plate moves parallel to itself to bring its inclined edge into contact with the float 2, and the movement of the plate is indicated as before. In another modification, the inclined member may be pivoted at one end only.
