Abstract

256,124. Azzopardi, G. Jan. 12, 1926. Filters with loose filtering - materials.- A filter for oils, greases, waxes, wines, syrups, &c. comprises a number of vertical perforated cylinders 2, Fig. 4, fixed to a. plate 1, perforated only beneath alternate annular spaces, which contain cotton waste, slag wool or other filtering- medium. An element h so formed is placed in a container comprising an upper part B, Fig. 3, fitting in and resting upon a lower part C. Beneath the element h are discs g of felt compressed on a perforated plate f between rings j, e, the ring e supporting also a canvas or like bag i. Filter paper may be placed between the discs g, and the bag i may be filled with a decolourizing or deodourizing agent such as bone charcoal or Florida clay. The material to be treated is charged into the part B. heated by steam passing through a coil d, and subjected to pressure by air supplied by a hand pump c or through a connection b<2>. The filtered liquid is collected by a corrugated plate k, passed to the lower part C through a spout l and directed down a pipe n into a compartment, formed by a partition o, in which water separates and is retained while the purified liquid passes over the partition.
