Abstract

227,707. Brandwood, J. May 22, 1924. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Purifying liquids; filters with loose filtering- materials.-Apparatus for filtering and softening water comprises separate holders for the filtering medium and for the zeolite or other softening medium, each holder being provided with means for maintaining the medium under pressure. The apparatus shown comprises annular layers 25, 26 of zeolite and sand, bounded by concentric perforated cylinders 14, 15. 17, and maintained under pressure by rings 23, 22<a> held down by nuts on the cylinder 14. A number of units so constructed may be arranged over apertures in a false bottom 10 in a casing 4, or a single unit may be connected directly to an outlet union 7. The water is supplied through a pipe 5 and drawn off through a pipe 8. Wash water or brine for regenerating the zeolite may be circulated through the apparatus from a tank 42 by a pump 34.
