Compound &c. engines. - Where intermediate superheating is used between the stages of a prime mover, for example between the stages b, c of a turbine supplied by a boiler a, a small part only of the working-fluid is tapped from the intermediate pipe d and led bv a pipe e to a superheater z directly heated by the furnace gases, the small part thus superheated to a high degree being returned by a pipe f to mix with and superheat the rest of the working-fluid in the pipe d. The dimensions of the pipes e, f may be kept small. A circulating-pump i may be arranged in the pipe e. The ratio of the quantities of tapped fluid to remaining fluid is kept constant by nozzles in the piping e, f.
