Abstract

255,042. Compagnie de Produits Chimiques et Electrometallurgiques Alais, Froges, et Camargue. July 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Magnesium and alkali chlorides; magnesia.- Materials containing anhydrous magnesium chloride, such as dehydrated carnallite or dehydrated magnesium chloride (containing magnesium chloride and magnesia), are extracted with a suitable anhydrous solvent for magnesium chloride, which does not dissolve the other ingredients, namely, absolute methyl or ethyl alcohol or a mixture of them. When carnallite is employed, magnesium and potassium chlorides are obtained, and from dehydrated magnesium chloride are obtained magnesia and magnesium chloride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that any other appropriate solvent for magnesium chloride which does not dissolve the other ingredients may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
