Abstract

254,178. Scott, W. M., and Tresise, R. E. Oct. 1, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In apparatus for reactivating a thoriated tungsten filament, a filament-emission meter is used for indicating the emission at any time during the process of reactivation. As shown, the grid and anode of a valve A are connected through a meter FE with one end of the primary of a transformer T, the other end of which is connected with a contact 6. The sacondary of the transformer has several tappings controlled bv a switch L connected with the filament. In order to reactivate the filament, the switch is moved into engagement with the contact 5 so that the full voltage across the secondary is applied to the filament for half a minute. A lower voltage is then applied for 10 minutes by moving the switch on to either of the contacts 3, 4. The meter FE may be connected by moving the switch to engage with the contacts 3, 6 simultaneously.
