Abstract
254,115. Pritzbuer, G. July 24, 1925. Retorts; coking processes. - Bituminous fuel such as coal is distilled by being heated with sudden increases of temperature, the supply of heat being reduced or stopped between these heating intervals. The heating may be effected by electric currents passing either through the material or through coils surrounding the material and molten metal may also be used. The heat impetus is produced in a rotary retort, Fig. 2, enclosed in a heating chamber a divided into smaller chambers each heated by a burner g, separate burners d producing a local high temperature. The distilling furnace shown in Fig. 4 is provided with conveyer bands l along which the material trends from the charging device v to the discharging device v', molten metal or other molten substances being circulated by a pump r through coils s which are indirectly heated by immersion in a lead bath heated by burners o. Local heating is effected by the passage of electric current from copper rollers x through the fuel to a metal plate y. Distillates are withdrawn by suction.
