Magnetic instruments.-A sound-reproducing or transmitting instrument, such as a telephone receiver or loud-speaker, of the kind comprising a pot-shaped magnet, a plunger vibratable with the diaphragm in a longitudinal air-gap of the magnet and an operating coil arranged, in the case of reproducing, to produce changes of flux in the air gap corresponding to received electric oscillations, has the, coil located on the pole-face of the central limb of the magnet. A magnetic shunt field between the central and outer limbs of the magnet, preferably formed by an annular extension of the central limb, is provided around the coil. The pot-shaped magnet comprises an annular member 21 connected at its lower end to a magnetic disc 22 and at its upper end to an annular member 23 of magnetic material, the central limb 24 being secured to the disc 22 by a threaded bolt 19. The limb 24 is enlarged at 25 and provided with an annular rim 26 which forms the magnetic shunt between the central and outer limbs, the operating coil 27 being located within the rim 26. The magnet assembly is mounted in a cup-shaped member 28 which can be moved towards and away from the diaphragm 14 carrying the magnetic plunger 32 by means of a nut 17 co-operating with the threaded bolt 19.
