252,310. Koppers Co., (Assignees of Ackeren, J. van). May 23, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 230,167. Coke ovens.-In a coke oven as described in the parent Specification, in which the header flues 25 at the upper ends of the heating flues 17 are connected by a duct 26 located at a higher level than the tops of the ovens, the connection between the flues 25 and the duct 26 is made by a number of distributed ports 26<1>. The header flues are made of small depth, and the cross-sectional area of the ports 26<1> and duct 26 is at least double that of the header flues. As shown, each group of five vertical flues is connected to its own header flue, but the partitions 28<1> may be omitted so that two undivided header flues serve the whole of the heating-wall flues. The flues 25, 26 are separated by a substantial thickness of brickwork, in which the ports 26<1> and plugged inspection openings 27<A> are formed. This brickwork is at the level of the gas space of the oven and prevents overheating of the gas.
