250,702. Douglas Motors, Ltd., and Pullin, C. G. Feb. 2, 1925. Joints, packing by wrapping. - In a spigot-and-socket joint for pipes 2, 3, the end 4 of the pipe 3 is provided with an internal annular groove 6 into which a strip &c. of packing 9 is wound in superimposed turns, by relative rotation of the two pipes, so as to form a pressure-tight joint. Radially arranged holes 7, 8 are provided in the two pipes to facilitate winding of said packing. in a modification, the annular space is constituted by a difference in diameters of the pipes and the outer one is provided with an inward flange and the inner one with an outward flange, portions of each flange, if necessary, being cut away to enable the two pipes to be engaged.
