Abstract

249,848. International Combustion Engineering Corporation, (Assignees of Lundgren, E.). March 26, 1925, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces.-In a boiler fired with pulverized fuel from downwardly-directed burners, the combustion chamber widens downwardly and has its sides formed by banks of inclined water-tubes through which the gases escape to flues so arranged that the flame is of a double U-shape. A boiler comprising upper and lower drums 1, 3 connected by banks of tubes 5 is heated by burners 15 through which fuel and primary air are projected downwards into the combustion chamber 14 between sheets of preheated secondary air supplied through nozzles 33. The secondary air passes on each side of the boiler through a heater 23 in the uptake and then through tubes 30 placed between the boiler tubes. Primary air is supplied by a fan 19 and enters the fuel feeder 16 through a pipe 17<1>. Dampers 25 control the draught through the uptakes on each side of the boiler. Baffles 8 are placed over the tubes at the upper part of the combustion chamber. Tubes 13 connecting the lower drums serve as a cooling screen for the ash. Evaporating tubes 36 are arranged' in the walls of the combustion chamber.
