Charge, moistening. - To prevent carbonization, steam is admitted to the induction pipe when the throttle is suddenly opened, by a device comprising a water container a connected to the induction pipe q by a pipe g passing through a block o heated by the exhaust pipe, the portion c of the pipe g situated within the container being provided with perforations above the water level. When the throttle is suddenly opened, the pressure in the induction pipe increases, and mixture flows through the pipe g to the container a, thus increasing the pressure therein; when the engine speeds up and the pressure in the induction pipe falls, water is forced through the pipe g to the induction pipe, being converted into steam in passing through the block o.
