Pistons; balancing laterally; cooling. - In an aluminium or like piston of the type in which the skirt is heat-insulated from the head, the part e<1> of the head over the gudgeonpin bosses e is made very thick and is provided with an insulating groove f. A packing or other ring is inserted in the groove to give rigidity. The piston is made oval with the bosses in the narrowest diametral plane, the major diameter being equal to the cylinder bore. On heating the smaller diameter increases, and the larger diameter remains the same, or is shortened. The piston may have a number of grooves f and the skirt may be notched. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the arrangements described in Specifieation 245,063 may be incorporated in the invention. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
