Abstract

249,287. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Feb. 14, 1925. Diaphragms.-A transmitting diaphragm 14, more particularly for use in the sound-recording apparatus described in Specification 242,821, comprises a rigid cone-shaped central portion 21 supported only at its base by a ring of mica 23, which acts as a restraining member to raise the natural period of the cone, preferably above the limits of audition. The cone-shaped portion 21, which is preferably formed with radial ribs 22. may be produced by placing a sheet of metal over a concave mould of the desired form and forcing the sheet into the mould by compressed air. The apex of the diaphragm may be connected by a wire 25 to a shaft 26 carrying a mirror M, the shaft 26 being held in jewel bearings 27, Fig. 4, by a magnet 28.
