Abstract
An illuminating formed part 1, especially a decorative part and/or a covering part for the interior space of a vehicle, comprises an at least partly transparent support 2 with at least one light source 3,4 arranged on one side of the support 2, with the support 2 being arranged with at least one flute 7 as an optical conductor for conducting the light emitted by the at least one light source 2. The support 2 may be provided with a film 9 having a transparent area 10 and an opaque area 8. The support 2 may comprise a projection 6 with the light source 3,4 being provided on the projection. The light source 2 may be a light emitting diode (LED).
Description
AN ILLUMINATING FORMED PART, ESPECIALLY A DECORATIVE PART AND/OR A COVERING PART FOR THE INTERiOR SPACE OF A VEHICLE
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTiON
The present invention relates to an illuminating formed part, especially a decorative part and/or a covering part for the interior space of a vehicle. *0 * * * *

The German patent application DE 10 2008 057 332 Al describes an illuminated decorative *0*S element for an airbag cover of a steering wheel. The decorative element there comprises a base support and cover element, with a lighting means being provided in a space between the base : * support and the cover element. The base support and the cover element are materially 0** ** * connected with one another by a welding process. The cover element is made from an at least *. .: partly transparent plastic material. However, two parts, i.e. the base support and the cover element, need to be provided and welded together in the decorative element as described in DE 2008 057 332 Al. This mounting work leads to additional production costs.
A formed part is further described in DE 202007016053 Ul which comprises a decorative layer and a support made of plastic or rigid foam which forms fastening elements. A luminescent layer is provided between the decorative layer and the support. A UV LED strip with several UV LEDs as the excitation source is arranged on the side of the support opposite of the luminescent layer. This formed part is also relatively difficult to produce because a special luminescent layer needs to be provided between the decorative layer and the support, which luminescent layer is irradiated via an additional excitation source.
Furthermore, DE 10 2004 044 035 Al discloses a covering part for the interior space of a motor vehicle. The component is made at least partly of a transparent plastic, which component was produced by means of a so-called internal gas-assisted injection molding process and is provided with a respective injection channel. An optical conductor is housed in the injection channel. Light supplied to the optical conductor is delivered out of component and into the component by way of structures introduced at suitable locations on the surface of the optical conductor. A separate optical conductor is necessary in this component, which needs to comprise respective light-conducting structures for introducing light.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In view of this background, it is the object of the present invention to provide an improved illuminating formed part.
This object is achieved in accordance with the invention by a formed part with the features of claim 1.

The invention is based on the realization that the light technology for illuminating a formed part : .° * and the formed part per se need not be arranged separately from one another. It is therefore the S...
idea of the present invention to integrate the light technology for illuminating a formed part in the formed part itself. For this purpose, at least one flute is arranged as an optical conductor in an at least partly transparent support of the formed part.
The solution in accordance with the invention offers the advantage that no separate optical conductor needs to be provided and fastened to the formed part. Simple and cost-effective production is enabled thereby.
Advantageous embodiments and further developments are provided in the further dependent claims and from the description by reference to the drawings.
In an embodiment in accordance with the invention, the support is provided on at least one side with a film. The film comprises an at least partly transparent area and/or an opaque area for example. As a result of the partly transparent area of the film, light can be conducted out of the support to the outside in order to illuminate the formed part Similarly, the area of the formed part which shall not illuminate can be suitably covered or shaded off by the opaque area of the film.
In another embodiment in accordance with the invention, the at least partly transparent area of the film is arranged in one or several colors for illuminating the formed part in one or several colors. In the case of multi-color configuration of the film, although only one type of light source is used, multiple illumination of the formed part can be provided thereby in a highly cost-effective way. Preferably, the light source emits neutral white light.
In a further embodiment in accordance with the invention, the at least partly transparent area of the film comprises at least one opening, through which light emitted by the light source can pass.
Instead of arranging the film in a transparent manner in one area, the film can also comprise an opening for example in order to allow light of the light source of the formed part to pass through the same.
In accordance with another embodiment in accordance with the invention, the flute can be °. provided in the longitudinal direction of the support or at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the support depending on which guidance of the light through the flute is provided as the optical conductor.

and behind the projection or the pin. Furthermore, the projection can also be arranged as a strip . .: on which several light sources are arranged in form of a light strip. One or several flutes for conducting the light of the light sources can be provided on one side or both sides of the light strip or the strip-like projection. The height of the projection, irrespective of the shape of the projection, i.e. irrespective of whether it is strip-like or pin-like, can be chosen in such a way that optimal illumination can be achieved. Preferably, the light source is arranged as an LED or an LED array. An LED comes with the advantage that it is arranged in an especially small and therefore compact manner and further consumes very little power.
ln another embodiment in accordance with the invention, the support for fastening the formed part (1) comprises at least one fastening element (12, 13). The fastening element is arranged as a clip for example. Preferably, the clip is fastened to the support in a fixed or detachable way. In addition to the clip, the formed part can also be fastened in a simple manner by screwing, pinning and/or gluing in an interior space of the vehicle.
In a preferred embodiment, the support for fastening the fastening element by tight clamping or latching for example comprises a projection, a depression and/or a recess.
In accordance with a further embodiment in accordance with the invention, the film is back-injected in the support and the film is printed on one side or both sides, The film can especially be a polycarbonate (PC) film, an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ABS/PC) film and/or a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) film.
In another embodiment, the support contains a material made of polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ASS/PC), and/or polymethyl methacrylate (PM MA). The support can especially produced by way of an injection molding process.
Furthermore, the same dies can be used for injection molding the support when using the materials of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ASS/PC) and polycarbonate (PC) since both materials substantially have the same shrinkage.
In an especially preferred embodiment, the support is arranged as an injection-molded part. It can be produced in an especially inexpensive and simple way.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Fig. I shows a sectional view of an illuminating formed part I according to an embodiment of the invention. The formed part 1 is especially a decorative part and/or a covering part for interior space of the vehicle.
As is shown in the embodiment in Fig. 1, the formed part I comprises a support 2. The support 2 is made at least partly or completely of a transparent or translucent material, The material is a transparent or translucent plastic for example, e.g. polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or acrylic glass, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ABS/PC) and/or polycarbonate (PC).
The invention is not limited to these examples for materials for the support 2. The support 2 can also principally be produced at least partly or completely of any other material or combination of material which is transparent or translucent.
In accordance with the invention, a formed part 1 is provided in which the light technology, i.e. at least one light source 3, is integrated directly in the formed part 1. The light source 3 used in this case is especially an LED 4 which emits the light directly into the support 2 or the support material. In the embodiment as shown in Fig. I, an LED 4 is fastened as a light source 3 to the inside or non-visible side 5 of the support 2, e.g. they are clipped together for example. For this S...
purpose, the support 2 can additionally comprise a projection 6 on its non-visible inside 5 as is shown in the embodiment in Fig. 1, to which at least one light source 3, which in this case is an : *° LED 4, is fastened. The projection 6 can be arranged in the manner of a strip (not shown), with several light sources arranged thereon for example which form a kind of a strip of lights, or it can be arranged in the manner of a pin for example with a round andfor angular cross-section, with at least one light source 3 being arranged on the tip of the pin-like projection 6, as is shown in embodiment in Fig. I. The support 2 further comprises at least one or several flutes 7 on the non-visible inside 5. The respective flute 7 is arranged in such a way that it acts as an optical conductor with a prism for a defined light delivery or a defined light emission. in the case of several flutes 7, which are arranged on one or both sides to the right and left of the light source 3 which in this case is the LED 4 for example, several optical conductors with prisms can be provided in this manner for a defined light delivery or light emission. The flutes 7 can not only be arranged to the right and left of the light source 3, but also before and behind the light source 3 (not shown).
As shown in the embodiment in Fig. 1, the surface of the non-visible side 5 of the support 2 is provided with peaked or pointed flutes 7 at least on both sides or to the right and left of the projection 6 with the light source 3, with the flutes 7 -as described above -acting as prisms and conducting the light emitted by the light source 3 as optical conductors. The flutes 7 can be arranged in any way in relation to the associated light source 3. As is shown in the embodiment in Fig. 1, the flutes 7 can extend in the longitudinal direction of the support 2 for example or extend at an angle of 90° for example in relation to the longitudinal direction of the support 2 and/or in a star-like manner from the light source 3, depending on where the light of the light source 3 is to be guided. By forming the flutes 7 in the support 2, the necessity of diffusers and separately fastened optical conductors can be avoided, as is the case in the previously described state of the art.
In the event that the formed part 1 is to shine only in a selected area, the support 2 is arranged to be opaque or non-transparent in the region 8 in which it will not shine. The support 2 can be printed in black in this region 8 for this purpose for example.
A film 9 is applied to or printed on the support 2 for example, which film is opaque or non-transparent in the region 8 of the support 2 where no light shall pass through. In the region 10 of °. : the support 2, where light is intended to pass through, the film 9 is arranged to be transparent or * *S translucent in part or in full, or it comprises an opening or a recess (not shown).

(PC), an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ABS/PC) andlor a polymethyl * .4 * " methacrylate (PMMA) film (diffuser function).
The film 9 can be provided or printed on the surface of the visible side 11 or the outside of the support 2 andor on the surface of the non-visible side 5 or the inside of the support 2. Different background illumination colors can be achieved in that the film 9 with one or several transparent colors is printed onto or applied to the support 2. As a result, one type or one color of light source or LED can be used instead of light sources of different colors such as LEDs of different colors for example in order to achieve different background colors or background illuminations of different colors. For example, a light source which illuminates in white or in the daylight range such as a respective LED for example can be used, and a red or green illumination of the formed part 1 to the outside can be achieved when the film comprises a respective red or green transparent area.
The film 9 for application or printing on the support 2 can be a film 9 which is printed on both sides, e.g. a pofycarbonate (PC) film 9 which is printed on both sides and which is provided on the support 2 by way of back injection. The film 9 can have thickness of 0.75 mm for example.
This thickness is provided merely by way of example and the film 9 can have a larger or lower thickness than 0. 75 mm.
The formed part 1 which comprises an integrated illumination or background illumination such as an integrated LED background illumination and a film 9 for generating a region where light can pass through the formed part 1 and/or cannot pass through said part comes with the advantage that it has a very simple and inexpensive configuration.
Furthermore no additional scattering element or diffuser is necessary in the formed part 1 in accordance with the invention and no additional optical conductor with prisms since these functions of light technology are integrated directly in a component, i.e. the formed part 1.
The luminous intensity or brightness decreases by the second power with a gap or open space *, : between the optical conductor and the surface on the visible side or outside of the support 2 or * S. the formed part 1. Since usually a reflector housing with an optical conductor and a diffuser *0*�** * plate will be fastened to a dashboard for example, the gap or open space between the decorative part can vary as a result of mounting tolerances. space can be ensured via the integration of the light technology in the formed part 1. That is why better and more stable optics for background illumination are achieved by direct integration : ** in the formed part 1 in accordance with the invention. As a result, optional background illumination of decorative covering parts 1 for the interior space can be achieved at low cost. Since the usual support material for a support 2 of a formed part I is an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend (ABS/PC) for example for this application, the required transparent polycarbonate (PC) material can be injection-molded with the same die because it has the same shrinkage or contraction so that no additional production costs will be incurred.
The formed part I in accordance with injection can be injection-molded, with the invention not being limited to this process. It is possible to use any other process or combination of processes which are suitable to produce the formed part I with integrated light technology.
As is shown in the embodiment for a formed part 1 in accordance with the invention in Fig. 1, the formed part I can additionally be provided or arranged with at least one or several fastening elements 12. The formed part I in Fig. 1 comprises two fastening elements 12 for example, e.g. in form of clips 13. The clips are provided on the formed part 1 in a fixed or detachable manner.
For this purpose, the formed part 1 can be provided with a respective projection 14 on its non-visible side or inside 5, as shown in the embodiment in Fig. 1, and/or a depression or recess (not shown) for fastening an associated clip 13 with which the formed part I can be clipped in in an interior space of the vehicle for example. The clip 13 such as a metal and/or plastic clip can be rigidly connected with the projection 14, e.g. by gluing or remolding, or can be latched detachably to the same.
The invention is not limited to this fixing of the formed part I and its fastening elements 12. Any kind of fixing can be provided which is suitable for fastening the formed part I at a provided location, especially an interior space of the vehicle.
Although the present invention was fully described by reference to the aforementioned preferred embodiments, it is not limited to the same but can be modified in numerous ways.

- 4. A formed part according to one of the claims 2 or 3, characterized in that the at least partly transparent area (10) of the film (9) comprises at least one opening through which light can pass which is emitted by the light source (3, 4).
- 5. A formed part according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the flute (7) is provided in the longitudinal direction of the support (2) or at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the support (2).
- 6. A formed part according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support (2) comprises a projection (6), with the at least one light source (3, 4) being provided on the projection (6), and/or with the light source (3) being arranged as an LED (4).
- 7. A formed part according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support (2) comprises at least one fastening element (12, 13) for fixing the formed part (1), with the fastening element (12) being arranged as a clip (13) and with the clip (13)IIbeing fastened to the support (2) in a fixed or detachable manner.
- 8. A formed part according to claim 7, characterized in that the support (2) comprises a projection (14), a depression andfora recess for fixing the fastening element (121 13).
- 9. A formed part according to one of the claims 2 to 8, characterized in that the film (9) is back-injected in the support (2) and the film (9) is printed on at least one side, with the film (9) being arranged especially as a polycarbonate film, an acrylonitrilebutadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend film and/or a polymethyl methacrylate film.
- 10. A formed part according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support (2) contains a material made of polycarbonate, acrylonitrlle butadiene styrene/polycarbonate blend and/or polymethyl methacrylate.
