Abstract

Binding - posts. - A screwed stem a is fitted with a collar b, a securing-nut c and a binding - nut e that grips the wire upon the collar b or in a transverse hole f, and an indicating disc or label h is mounted upon the stem and fits within a recess g in the upper part of the nut e. The indicating disc h may be of metal, ebonite, celluloid, &c., and may be screwed or moulded upon the stem or made in one therewith. The nut e and collar b may be of insulating material moulded upon metal bushes. The indicating disc may be carried upon a sliding-member j, Fig. 8, guided in a slot f<1> in the stem. In this case the nut e may serve to support the member j against the pressure of a spring that tends to press the member against the wire, or the nut e may be formed with a shoulder m that fits between the disc h and a head n on the sliding-member j which is thus moved in both directions as the nut e screws upon the stem a. A similar result may be obtained by providing a collar at the lower end of the sliding-member j that projects beneath the nut e and coacts with the collar b which may be grooved. The sliding-member may surround the stem a and have an external screw-thread that coacts with the nut e which is then held against axial movement by the disc h and projections on the collar b, these projections also forming spaces in which the wire can be inserted.
