Ball-and-ring mills; roller-and-ring mills.- Relates to grinding or crushing mills of the type in which balls or rollers, or both, are carried by pendulum arms which are suspended or pivoted on ball or other bearings from a head mounted on a shaft so as to be rotated and to swing outwards under centrifugal force. The pendulum arms are mounted in ball or roller bearings in housings pivotally connected to a member or sleeve rotatable over a stationary shaft. The pendulum arms f, Fig. 1, are suspended from ball or roller bearings g in housings e which are suspended by bolts or pins d from lugs on a sleeve or head b rotated over the stationary vertical shaft a by means of a pulley b'. The grinding-track j against which the balls or rollers h at the lower ends of the arms f bear may be stationary or rotating. Fans o on the arms f blow the ground material through a screen n, the grinding-chamber k being provided with :a dust-proof cover m. Fig. 4 shows a mill with a stationary horizontal sbaft 12 mounted in standards 13 on a base 14 and carrying a sleeve 16 which is rotated by means of a pulley 15 and has lugs 17 to which are pivoted the housings 18 in which the pendulum arms 19 are mounted in ball or roller bearings 20. The material to be ground is fed into the grinding- chamber by a hopper 24, and the ground material passes into a receiving-hopper 25. In fine, grinding, the outlet of the hopper 25 is closed and the material is withdrawn through a passage 26 by a fan 27.
