Abstract
3258. Moss, A. H. Feb. 7. Edge-runners and pans and like mills. - In a mill in which rollers on swivelling shafts work in an horizontal rotating grinding-ring, the ring A is formed with a concave upper face and supported on three or more rollers B, one of which is driven by a pulley B<1>, and the grinding-rollers C are pressed against the ring, preferably by wire ropes E or the like passing over or secured to the shafts D of the rollers and connected to weights or springs F. One of the grinding-rollers may be positively driven by a crossed belt from a pulley B<3> on the shaft B<2>, and the ring A may also be positively driven, as by bevel-gearing, from the shaft B<2>. The screen G surrounding the ring A may be stationary, but is preferably fixed to the ring, and a scoop or scraper L carried by the ring delivers the material from the stationary channel J. Or the channel may be fixed to the ring A, and a stationary scraper employed. The screen may be caused to vibrate. A plough or deflector may lift the material from the ring and direct it against the screen. The mill is preferably enclosed by a casing K, and a current of air may be passed through it to remove dust.
