Abstract

Roller-and-ring mills.-In a grinding or crushing machine of the centrifugal type, the crushing- rollers carried by the rotating-part are pressed on to the crushing-ring by springs and the crushing-ring is separate from the casing and adapted to be independently rotated, the casing being stationary and carrying the rotatable ring. The crushing-ring 2 is supported on flanges 4 between the cheeks of a narrowed central portion of the casing 1, and has an external rack gearing with a pinion 6 on a shaft 7 supported in bearings in one of the casing parts 3. The axles 13 of the crushing-rollers 10 revolve in sleeve bearings 12 carried in gapped parts 11 of. a carrier 8 on the hollow shaft 9. Springs 14 supported on lugs 15 on the sides of the carrier and adjustable by means of screw-studs 16 press the sleeves 12 radially outwards. Air enters the machine through openings 21 in the casing and ports 22 near the centre of the carrier 8. The material is fed through the hollow portion 17 of the shaft 9 and ports 20 which lead into the interior of the carrier 8. A clearance space 25 is provided outside the bearing part of the ring 2 and openings are formed in the supports 4 to allow any material which escapes past the inner bearing- edges of the ring to pass freely away from the machine. The ring may be supported on rollers on the inside faces of the case parts 3. The outlet of the machine may be connected to a fan.
