Abstract

Securing coupling-parts on shafts.-In universa.l joints for magneto shafts &c. of the kind in which the ends of one or more helical or other springs are secured to plates on the shaft ends, the plates are readily adjustable around the shaft axes. The plates b, b<1> to which the spring a is secured are internally or externally toothed and engage corresponding teeth d, d<2> on the shafts or on sleeves c, d<3> secured thereto. The plates may be secured in adjusted position by grub-screws, or, as shown, plates h secured to the plates b, b<1> may engage the inner ends of the teeth on the sleeves to maintain tooth engagement, the plates b, b<1> being rotatable for adjustment when the spring a is compressed. To provide a fine relative adjustment for the shafts, the numbers of teeth on the shaft ends may differ slightly. In a modified form of connection between the plates b, b' and the sleeves, T-headed bolts pass radially through the plates and engage undercut circular slots in the periphery of the sleeves, into which slots entry is made by a lateral opening. Nuts on the bolt ends secure the plates in adjusted position on the sleeves.
