Force-feed lubricating; lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.-Oil is supplied directly to the bearings and cylinder walls of an internalcombustion engine from a sump 4 by a pump 2 through conduits 5, 6, 7, a spring-loaded release valve 11 in the conduit 6 being adapted to open when the resistance to flow becomes excessive, oil then flowing through a passage 12 to a pipe 13 having branches 14 delivering to troughs 15 into which the connecting-rod big-ends dip.
