Abstract

245,617. Ryder & Son, Ltd., T., and Ryder, F. E. Feb. 6, 1925. Lathes.-A vertical automatic turning-lathe of the type comprising an intermittently rotatable bed or table a carrying a number of rotatable headstocks c is provided with an annular frame d adjustably supported above the bed and carrying adjustable tailstocks g in alignment with the headstocks so that the work-pieces o may be rotated between centres. The frame d slides on columns b secured to the table and is clamped by members e. The tailstock centres h are adjustable by a pinion on a handle j and are clamped in position by bolts k. The tailstocks may either be integral with the frame d or they may be removably secured thereto. The upper ends of the columns b are stayed by a ring f and the frame d may be set by means of distance pieces p located between the stay ring and the frame and secured by bolts q. An indexing plunger r raised automatically by the rotation of the usual upper cam drum s is provided with guide pegs t engaging a fixed disc w and ensures accurate positioning of the stay ring after each movement by the engagement of a taper-sided projection u between lugs on the stay ring. Lathe drivers and carriers.-The headstocks have centres m and the work-pieces are driven by carriers n mounted over the centres.
