Abstract

1494173 Work transfer machines K E WITZIG and R FRANK 14 April 1976 15191/76 Heading B3B An automatic workpiece transfer machine in which workpieces are moved in a rotary indexing motion to successive machining stations at which are mounted machining units 12, comprises a central support member 6 secured coaxially between two carrier members 4, 7. An annular workpiece carrier 9 mounted on the central support 6 for rotary indexing movement therearound and carrying a plurality of work holders 10 on its outer periphery, means being provided to lock the carrier 9 at any indexed position corresponding to a machining station. Yoke members 20 are securable between the carrier members 4 and 7 and on which the machining units can be mounted in predetermined orientations. Machining units may also be located in sleeves 13 in the carrier members 4 or 7 so as to permit machining operations on the respective workpieces as they are indexed to the various machining stations. The annular carrier 9 has a ring gear 41 secured at its upper end for engagement with a pinion 44 of a stepping motor 14 which effects indexing of the carrier according to a predetermined programme. The carrier 9 is also axially displaceable on the central member 6 by way of a motor 36 shaft 37 and pulling mechanism 38 which engages the sides of the ring gear 41 whereby the carrier can be raised to engage the gears 41, 44 to effect indexing and then lowered into its operative position in a washing station and locked in this position by co-operating teeth 34, 35 between the carrier and central member. The workholders are hydraulically actuated.
