Abstract
245,503. Ropeways, Ltd., and Roe, H. Oct. 7, 1924. Rope railways.-Ropeways, with or without a stationary carrying rope, are made in one section driven at both ends by separate units, each unit being so controlled as to do its proper share of the work. Each unit may comprise a framing e, Fig. 2, with a steam engine driving one ot a pair of wheels f receiving the travelling cable a which also passes over a pulley h carried by a tension truck i. The rope a passes over a guide u to deliver the carriers on to the rail k and thence under a wheel v carried by a sliding frame x weighted at y. The frame x is connected to the steam supply valve so as to decrease the supply when the rope a is over-tensioned. The control may also be effected through a clutch 6, 7, Fig. 7, on the driving shaft o. The parts 6, 7 are connected by springs 8, part 7 having a cam 12 engaged by a roller 11<a> on a lever 11 carried by part 6. Lever 11 is connected by a sliding collar 14 with the steam valve. When the motors are governed by electric relays, each circuit 22, 22<a>, Fig. 10, includes a rheostat 21, 21a connected together and operated in opposite directions by lever 2<a> coupled to frame x, Fig. 2. The motors may be driven by oil, gas, or hydrocarbons.
