244,916. Smith, F. E., Cole, D. W., and Synthetic Ammonia & Nitrates, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1924. Packing, metallic; packing, removable casings, containers, or carriers for.-Packing for gas compressors &c. consists of undivided rings 14 of U-section which are axially compressible and have rounded wearing surfaces. The rings may be of brass, white metal, copper, aluminium or alternated. When of soft metal, the rings may be strengthened by inner ring 20 of steel &c. The rings are mounted in recesses in carrier rings 15. Lubricant under pressure may be circulated through the stuffing box by means of lantern rings 16, 19.
