Packing, metallic.-A packing for stuffing-boxes comprises a series of metal, preferably malleable iron, rings 1 arranged in pairs and recessed to enclose sectional packing-rings 3 of white metal &c. and one or more washers 9 of india-rubber or the like between the pairs of rings, which are expanded inwardly and outwardly into contact with the rod and the inner surface of the stuffing- box respectively. The rings 1 are formed with tapped holes to enable them to be drawn out of the box 7.
