Abstract
244,760. Huwiler, A. Dec. 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Clutches, friction.-In fluidactuated clutches for variablespeed and reversing gearing &c., a radially - expansible chamber on the driving-shaft is pressed by the fluid into contact with a coaxial drum operatively connected, as by gearing, to the driven shaft, and, after release of the fluid pressure, the walls of the chamber are retracted by centrifugal counterweights. A driving-shaft 1 has fluid passages 10, carries on bearings 2 a circumferentially divided toothed drum 3, and has secured to it discs having fluid-tight joints 8 with the flanges 9 of the semi-cylindrical walls 6 of the pressure chamber. These walls are radially movable and are kept fluid-tight by overlapping portions 7, drive being conveyed to them by lugs 12 slidably engaging guides 11 on the discs 5. Centrifugal counterweights 15 are connected by screws 14 to lugs 13 on the parts 6. Draining-holes 16 provide for escape of leaking fluid. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect'. 91 (3) (a) the drum may be directly connected to the driven shaft, and that the pressure-chamber walls may be retracted by auxiliary pistons. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
