Coal-cutting machines.-A mining-machine has a feed operating member arranged on a longitudinal axis and driven through change-speed mechanism including planetary gearing. A reversible or uni-directional motor drives a pinion 15 which drives a shaft 24 by fast and slow gearing which may be arranged to give the same direction of drive at both speeds or opposite directions. The shaft 24 carries a pinion 43 engaging pinions 44 which engage a stationary internal gear 54 and are carried by a spider 47 on a shaft 48, which is thereby rotated. The feed drum 8, or feed sprocket, is keyed to an externally-toothed clutch member 58 adapted to be connected by a sliding internally-toothed member 57 to a similar clutch member 56 keyed to the shaft 48, whereby the feed drum &c. is driven. For transport purposes the machine may be mounted on a truck and the member 93 of the driving-gearing of the truck may then be connected to the clutch member 56 by the sliding member 57. Guide rolls or sprockets 84, 85, Fig. 11, are provided on each side of the machine, and additional guides 91, coaxial with the guides 84, 85 may also be provided.
