Abstract

Stays.-In order to secure the window in the closed position the stay-bar 1 is pivoted to a link 2 so that, when it is turned down, its end 6 projects above the link, as shown, and into the space between the end 16 and the face of the bracket E a tapered tongue 12 of a lever 10, pivoted to the bracket, is adapted to engage to draw the sash inwardly against the frame of the window. The link 2 is mounted in a pivot 4 carried by a bracket on the sash, and the staybar 1 has notches 14 which engage with the edge of a slot' 29 of the bracket 7 carried by the framing to secure the sash in any adjusted position when open. In a modification, the stay may be pivoted to an inner member provided with notches 14, and the lever secures the sash firmly in the open position by engaging in the recess between the projecting end of the outer stay-bar and the member 7, in addition to engaging behind the inner stay-bar to secure the sash in the closed position. In this construction, the lever has also a projecting piece engaging behind the slot 29. The notches 14 are formed at an angle, so that as the sash swings out radially the notches will be parallel with the edge of the bracket.
