Abstract
244,525. Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., and Curtis, A. H. Sept. 18, 1924. Inductances.-The outer member of a variometer or vario-coupler is mounted within a sheleton housing. In the variometer shown the stator winding 1 comprises two spherical zones rendered self-supporting by impregnation with a hard-drying varnish. The, housing consists of two mouldings of insulating material each comprising a large ring r<1> and a small ring r<2> joined by four curved arms a, cut away on the inside so as to have line contact only with the windings. The large rings r<1> of the two halves are clamped together by nuts 5 and bolts 6. The rings r' are provided with grooves which cooperate to form passages for trunnion members 7, 8 secured to a ring 3 on the rotor. The rotor winding comprises self-supporting spherical zones mounted on either side of the ring 3. The members 7, 8 are provided with conical portions 17 engaging flanged holes in spring brackets 13 having an inward bias. A dial and knob are secured to the member 7 by a grub-screw. In the variometer shown the whole of the rotor is connected in series between the two halves of the stator, the brackets 13 and members 7, 8 forming the interconnections. The free ends of the stator winding are connected to terminals 10 mounted in moulded bosses 23. The variometer is mounted with the rings r<1> vertical by means of sheet-metal legs secured by some of the bolts 6. The legs are cut away to clear the lowermost arms a.
