Abstract

133,135. Electrical Improvements, Ltd., and Beard, J. R. Sept. 30, 1918. Inductances.-An insulated cable with a metal sheath is wound in the form of a coil, the turns being supported to withstand stresses due to heavy currents, and the sheath being preferably earthed. The cable may have several cores lightly insulated from each other by impregnated paper and more heavily insulated from the sheath, the cores being connected in series or otherwise. As shown in Fig. 3. the cable A is supported on a frame consisting of segmental ring plates G and bolts G', the whole being then embedded in concrete C to form a cylinder with feet C<2>. Instead of using concrete, the frame may be made stronger, or racks may be used. Connexions between the cores are made in a joint-box C', preferably lined with lead F, to which the sheath is connected.
