Abstract

243,525. Burton, A. E. Nov. 25, 1924. Retort and like doors. -In a lid B for the mouth-piece of a gas retort the connection of the cross-bar C with the lid comprises an eccentric actuated by a lever J and a hinge D provided with an eccentric for compensating wear. A stud F passing through the cross - bar C and through a lug b<1> on the lid has a lug f<1> connected by a bar G with the hinge D somewhat in the manner described in Specification 182,216. The lever J used to tighten the lid against the flange a' has an eccentrically bored boss j' through which the stud F passes, the boss entering a circular hole in the lug b'. The hinge pin D has a hexagonal head d<2> provided with a stop having two flat faces between which is a V-shaped recess by which different adjustments of the hinge pin can be obtained. When the lid is closed the lever J is turned towards the hinge and the partial rotation of the boos j<1> forces the lug b<1> and lid B towards the mouth-piece, the end c' of the crossbar binding against the catch E so that the crossbar is supported at either end.
