242,868. British Brass Fittings, Ltd., and Sperryn, G. N. March 31, 1925. Lift valves; protecting covers. - In a screw-down tap having a detachable hollow sleeve j, Fig. 2, enclosing the upper parts of the tap, the handle or finger - piece o is mounted to rotate on the sleeve without axial movement and the valve spindle c is adapted to slide up within the handle without rotating relatively thereto. For this purpose the handle has an inturned flange p rotatably engaged in a groove at the top of the sleeve. The valve spindle is also made square at the top, h, and engages a similarly-formed aperture in the handle, or in a tubular member r secured therein by a screw-threaded flange s. Fig. 4 shows an alternative method of securing the handle o rotatably on the sleeve j.
