241,739. Watson, G. Nov. 26, 1924. Current motors; regulating. -In wind motors having rotor vanes 1 arranged radially to the shaft 2 and utilizing the so-called Magnus effect, and wherein the wind power itself is used to cause the rotor vanes to revolve on their own axes, friction rollers 7 for rotating the vanes 1 are driven by engagement with a fixed friction ring 5. Alternatively, the members 5, 7 may be toothed gears. For starting the motor, ordinary screw vanes 8 are provided on the same or an independent wind-wheel, and these vanes may be arranged outside or inside the ring of rotor vanes 1. The rotor vanes may be cylindrical or conical. Regulation may be effected by varying the effective diameter of the friction ring 5, or by regulating the amount of the friction slip, or by turning the motor more or less out of the wind, or by allowing the ring 5 to revolve under the control of an automatic brake. The motor may drive a screw or paddle-wheels for ship propulsion.
