Abstract

162,999. Fraser, A. Oct. 25, 1920. Screw motors; blades. - Oppositely rotating wind-wheels 19, 20 are mounted at the narrow end of a conical casing 11. The casing is formed with thick walls and the wind channel may diverge as at 13 after passing the first wheel. The wheel hubs and the toothed gearing are covered by a conical guide 34. The whole turns about a fixed column 21 so as to keep in the wind. The pitch of the blades is varied to maintain a constant speed with varying winds by means of an oil-actuated piston 38, Fig. 3, and gear 48, 49, 51 by which the vanes 19 are turned upon their trunnions 55. Oil is forced into the cylinder 37 by a pump 44 driven by the wind motor, and the position of the piston is determined by the oil pressure which increases with the speed of the pump.
