Abstract

146,031. Smithdale, W. Nov. 10, 1919 Current motors; driving-mechanism; blades &c. -In a wind-wheel of the vertical type, the vanes are double helically disposed, and are dished or cambered. The wheel 16 is mounted on a vertical shaft 2, and comprises a drum 21, with double helical vanes 17, Fig. 10, disposed around it. A segmental plate 23 attached to a rudder 35 by means of a steel framework 24 forms a mask over one vane quadrant, on the windward side. The framework, vanes, &c. are composed mainly of steel stampings. The vertical shaft 2 drives a double bevel-wheel 3, 4 and is supported in a bracket and footstep-bearing 11, 12. The shaft 8 drives a pump, while the shaft 7 may be used for driving any desired machine. A brake wheel 15 is secured to the upper end of the driving-shaft.
