Abstract
204,505. Adair, T. M. Sept. 7, 1922. Screw motors.-A turbine installation adapted to be submerged and anchored in a tide-race or current comprises one or more blade-wheels A mounted in a structure B which is free to rise and fall and to turn through half a revolution on a mast H so as to face the current for each direction of tide. Alternatively, the structure may be pivoted by means of links N about a mast M. The structure is turned by a tail-vane E, which may be assisted by a screw propeller driven by manual or other power. The wheels A may rotate in opposite directions, and floats and outriggers are provided to facilitate balancing.
