Abstract

1519947 Utilizing current and tidal energy; turbines J E THOMPSON 25 July 1975 [18 May 1974] 7364/74 Headings F1S and FIT Utilization of a large natural slow fluid flow, e.g. wind, river or sea currents, to produce electricity is effected by an hydraulic or air motor 7 driving a pump 5 rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis to direct working fluid through a pipe system 1, 2 to a construction 12 which intensifies the fluid flow and which contains a turbine 14 to be driven thereby and to drive an electric generator 15. As shown, a turbine 7 is driven by sea currents to drive a screw pump 5 pumping fresh water in a sealed pipe system mounted on piles on the sea-bed. Other embodiments are described.
