Abstract
A float moves up and down between the maximum and minimum sea levels at the site concerned, and its movements are transmitted mechanically or hydraulically to the drive shaft of an electric-current generator, thus making use of the action of tides and waves. There can be a piston coupled to the float and working in a reservoir, with vertical walls, whose lower part communicates via a passage with a water turbine driving the generator, the float being situated in a basin communicating with the open sea at a point where high tides occur. The turbine can have reversible blades, so that it is driven equally well whether the piston is rising or sinking.
