Grates.-The combustion chamber of a boiler furnace is formed with straight vertical sides, an approximately flat arched top, and the grate is approximately midway of the height. In the construction shown, the grate 4 is approximately midway between the top surface 3a and bottom surface 3b. The furnace bridge is indicated at 5.
