Projectiles. - Relates to " tracer " bullets a containing a smoke or flame producing compound in a chamber x in front of a plug c having grooves leading the compound to lateral outlets l. According - to the invention, the plug is harder than hard lead and forms in conjunction with the interior of the bullet envelope a restricted passage or passages i regulating the flow of the compound. The plug may for example be of lead within a cupro-nickel jacket b or of steel, and must be sufficiently hard to resist deformation when the bullet is fired. When the plug is of jacketed lead, the jacket b may be closed in front and flanged at the rear, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be closed at the rear and tapered in front towards an exposed lead nose. A groove k is formed round the plug on a level with the outlets l. An additional plug d may be inserted behind the plug k; and a copper disc f may be placed between the base of this latter plug and the flange c of the bullet envelope.
