Abstract
8301. King's Norton Metal Co., Bayliss, T. A., and Smith, H. Melville-. April 6. Projectiles.-Relates to jacketed bullets provided with compound cores, and has for its object to prevent the deformation of the front and rear parts, due to firing, while at the same time maintaining the frangibility upon impact. According to the invention, a section of hard metal, such as soft iron, steel, aluminium, a copper alloy, or the like, is inserted in the core where the parallel portion of the bullet begins to taper backwards or forwards. The front section of hard metal may be hollow and in one or two parts as shown at a, a<1> in Fig. 2, or may be solid as shown at a in Fig. 4. In the latter case, the front end of the bullet is filled with lead b or is left hollow, and the section a is held in place by a groove on the jacket c just in front of the section a. The rear section of hard metal is shown at e, Fig. 4.
