Abstract

240,204. Killen, E. B. May 27, 1924. Non-metallic elastic bodies and cores; tread surfaces.- A solid rubber tyre vulcanized to a single metal foundation band 5 is formed with an arcuate-section tread of extreme width equal to that of the base, 5, spaced cavities 2, 2<a> alternating around the sides of the tread leaving strong buttresses 4, 4a and a solid central wall 1 whose width is preferably 40 per cent of the tyre width. The rubber body between the tread edges and the base is preferably formed of reduced width as by the incurved 8, 8<a>. When fitted in twin or multiple form, as shown, the treads of adjacent tyres abut, thereby excluding stones &c. from jamming between the tyres. The recesses 2, 2<a> may be provided with stone-ejecting ribs 7, 7<a>. Specifications 116,390. 148,007, 191,545, and 194,452 are referred to.
