Tread bands, projections, and surfaces; non-metallic elastic bodies and cores. - The edges of the tread of a pneumatic or solid tyre are inwardly directed to form sharp edges to prevent side-slip, the sides of the tyre extending from the tread being similarly formed to produce serrated surfaces C. Figs. 1 and 2 show a tyre. cover with discontinuous serrated surfaces at each side of the tread, which is also formed with projecting studs B. Fig. 7 shows a solid tyre with serrated sides adapted to form non-skid treads as the tyre wears.
