Tread projections and surfaces. - Non-skid devices comprise perforated stamped metal plates e, which are covered with vulcanite partly vulcanized under pressure thereon, and built into the tyre flush with the tread, the rubber of which passes through the holes in the plates. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the plates are connected together in groups by rivets f, and have dovetailed gaps h filled by the rubber of the tread, which is raised from the body of the tyre and has triangular enlargements d at intervals. The plates may have anchoring-links o passed through holes therein, and the edges of the perforations may be jagged as shown at k. The devices may be arranged transversely, as shown, or obliquely, or both transversely and obliquely. In modifications, the plates are connected together in groups so as to be capable of relative movement, or are all threaded on circumferential wires. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the non-skid devices comprise a piece of metal e bent to form two perforated road-engaging portions connected by a perforated corrugated centre portion l.
