Abstract

655,710. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and LACEY, B. W. D. Sept. 17, 1949, No. 27331/48. [Class 144 (ii)] A tractor wheel pneumatic tyre has a tread with circumferential ribs 1 separated by a channel, the width of which progressively increases and decreases. As shown, the ribs 1 are sinuous with a pitch of between four and five times the minimum distance between the ribs. The minimum depth of the channel, which has an undulating base 2, is between one-half and two-thirds of the maximum depth, the latter being one-half of the minimum distance between the ribs. The pitch of the undulations of the base 2 is equal to the pitch of the rib sinuations. Grooved buttresses 3 are provided at intervals around the wall of the tyre and additional load-supporting surfaces may be provided in the spaces of maximum width between the ribs 1. In an alternative construction, the two sinuous ribs may be " in phase " and separated by a straight circumferential rib.
