Abstract

460,338. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., KING, F. G. W., and LAMBOURN, L. J. Jan. 25, 1936, No. 2373. [Class 144 (ii)] A pneumatic tyre tread comprising the usual projecting ribs, studs, or the like, such as 1, is characterized by serrations extending around the edges of the ribs, or the like, of such magnitude that the load-supporting and wear-resisting properties of the tread pattern are not materially diminished. The serrations may be of various shapes, such as the V- formation shown, or square, trapezoidal, or rounded indentations may be employed. The pitch p and the amplitude a of the serrations do not exceed one-tenth and one-twentieth, respectively, of the width w of the tread. If desired, the tread projections may be moulded of different sections at different depths, so that different edge formations are exposed as the tread wears down.
