Submersible pumps; casings. - A submerged centrifugal pump, particularly for raising hot and dangerous liquids, has a casing b with an annular slot k for the passage of the liquid to the runner l. The pump is suspended from a suitable carriage and is driven by an electric motor c. The apparatus is shown in Fig. 1 for pumping hot caustic potash solution from the container a, and discharging it through the pipe e and funnel f into the receptacles h. The upper part of the shaft d between the motor and the pump is enclosed by the tube m, which has a centrifugal ventilating fan at its lower end so that air is drawn down through the tube for cooling purposes.
