Abstract

239,199. Sprick, H. Aug. 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Tapping.-In a nut-tapping machine, the speed of rotation of the tap is decreased, when the tap meets with undue resistance, by automatically decreasing the angle of lap of the driving belt. The belt 24, driven from a power shaft 23, passes round pulleys 9, 10 and a jockey-pulley 11 urged by a spring or a weight to tension the belt. The pulleys 9, 10 are rotated in opposite direction on stationary bushes, the tap being driven through a pin clutch by either pulley. When the tap is checked the increased pull on the belt lowers the jocheypulley 11, decreases the angle of lap, and allows the. belt to slip. The jockey-pulley is mounted on a pivoted frame which may be manually operated.
