Abstract

238,672. British Lighting & Ignition Co., Ltd., and Hutton, J. C. July 15, 1924. Cams for mechanical interrupters for electric circuits are composed of laminations of non- metallic material compressed and held together by an insulating varnish of the bakelite type. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the laminations A, composed of paper fibre, or the like, are are arranged parallel to the direction of rotation of the cam, or may be of paper or fabric and mechanically fastened together by pins B, Fig. 3, or a metal sleeve C and washers D, Fig. 4. In the face cam shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the laminations are composed of a spirally wound insulating strip. In a further modification thin sheets of graphite E are placed between the laminations A for lubricating the cam, the laminations being placed at an angle to the cam axis. The cams are so constructed as to be struck on the edge of the material forming the cam.
